Alpha Kappa Lambda is a national academic fraternity that has returned its Lambda Chapter to Emporia State University. We are a diverse group of 28 young men who share a common goal of developing ourselves into mature individuals. We are located at 1005 Constitution. Contact email: lambda_reorganization@yahoo.com.
We hope you will check out our website. If you want to know more about our members and activities, you may want to start with the albums link. It will take you to groups of photos such as the recent 2009 Greek Week, when Alpha Kappa Lambda received the scholarship trophy for having the highest grade point average of any fraternity. For the latest news, you may want to check out the Lambda Blog, where you will learn about the campus leadership roles of the undergraduate AKLs and the distinguished careers of our graduate members. The brothers link will introduce you to the undergraduate brothers and a short video about each. The video link will take you to short videos of the installation of the re-established chapter in 2008.
Lambda Chapter of AKL was recognized as the Student Organization of the Year for 2008. AKL was the overall winner of the 2008 Greek Week competition. We have also been highly involved in raising money and awareness for the Services Offering Safety (SOS) women's shelter in Emporia. We worked closely with them in events such as the Call to Man workshop. We were recognized as the top fundraiser for the Light of Hope 5K Run/Walk, bringing in nearly $500 for the one event. Since the beginning of 2009, we have participated in additional community service projects, including Sleep in a Box, Relay for Life, Laps for Landon and others.
We are a diverse group whose involvement spans the campus. Our members include the President of Associated Student Government (who was also President of AKL for two years), four resident assistants in the dorm (including one who is also an ESU Ambassador and extremely active on campus), a lead member of comedy improvisation group, Zoiks! (as well as a new AKL Zoiks! member). AKL is represented in many other ESU organizations including Sigma Alpha Pi (the society of leadership and success), the Environmental Club, the Interfraternity Council, Ambassadors, Cross Country, Marching Band, Orchestra and others.
We are serious students and responsible citizens, but we have also found many inexpensive ways to have fun. Please check out our photo albums for such activities as our 2009 Spring Formal, our Luau and other activities such as having 60 people gathering in the Penthouse for the Super Bowl. We also have frequent unplanned activities such as Nerf wars, aerobic exercise and other shenanigans..
We share with our alumni a proud history at Emporia State. This fall, the undergraduates and alumni will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the original Lambda Chapter in 1949. The re-established AKL was officially made a chapter in 2008 after two years as a colony. We hope this website will help you to see what a wonderful brotherhood we have that embodies our ideals of leadership, scholarship, loyalty, self-support, and Judeo-Christian principles.
